Madinah Expands Public Transport System to Accommodate Growing Visitor Numbers

Riyadh: Madinah is expanding its public transport network as an essential element in providing a comfortable experience for the growing number of visitors, especially during the summer season, facilitating movement within the central area and access to the Prophet's Mosque. According to Saudi Press Agency, transport options include public buses, shuttle buses, taxis, ride-hailing apps, electric vehicles, and pedestrian pathways designed to the highest safety and comfort standards. The bus project fleet comprises 177 buses serving beneficiaries through more than 455 main and branch stops along a network spanning 639 kilometers. A Bus Rapid Transit project is also currently under implementation, consisting of two main routes and a rapid bus line. Road development projects, improved pavements, directional signage, and dedicated public transport lanes have enhanced traffic flow and improved connectivity between hotels, service facilities, and historic landmarks. Madinah's public transport network reflects the r elevant authorities' commitment to providing modern transport services that enhance the visitor experience and support the city's position as a global religious and tourism destination.
