Makkah Municipality Completes Maintenance, Rehabilitation of Bridges and Roads Ahead of Hajj

Makkah: The Holy Makkah Municipality has successfully completed maintenance and rehabilitation works on pedestrian bridges, traffic bridges, and road networks in Makkah and the holy sites. These efforts are part of the operational and preparatory plans for the Hajj season of 1447 AH.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative aims to enhance public safety, improve infrastructure efficiency, and facilitate smoother traffic flow on roads and key routes. The municipality is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of extensive road networks, which cover more than 11.3 million linear meters in Makkah and an additional 274,000 linear meters in the holy sites. It also monitors 143 bridges in these areas, focusing on enhancing traffic efficiency and ensuring safety during the busy Hajj season.

The maintenance works included a comprehensive package of activities, such as milling and resurfacing over 47,986 square meters, and applying 2,400 square meters of traffic paint markings. Additionally, the municipality treated and painted concrete elements over 57,291 square meters, which contributes to improving the urban landscape and raising the efficiency of roads and bridges.

Furthermore, the municipality took several measures to support safety standards and enhance operational readiness. This included the installation and maintenance of 1,040 linear meters of safety barriers, maintenance of 257 linear meters of bridge expansion joints, and installation of 125 square meters of protective mesh for support bridges.

In terms of traffic safety, the municipality's efforts involved the maintenance, renewal, and replacement of 71 damaged traffic signs, installation of 22 bridge clearance signs, and maintenance of 52 traffic reflectors. These actions are intended to enhance route visibility and improve road safety levels during the Hajj season.
