Minister of Water Resources: The government signed a framework agreement with the Turkish side to implement joint projects

The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, confirmed today, Monday, that the government signed a framework agreement with the Turkish side to implement joint projects. The Minister said in a statement, 'The Iraqi government signed a framework agreement with the Turkish side that includes cooperation in implementing joint projects, related to improving water management in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and exchanging experiences in the field of modernizing irrigation systems and modern technologies,' noting that 'this comes on the sidelines of the visit of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Iraq.' He added, "This agreement aims to develop ways of understanding and cooperation in the water sector, on the principle of equality, goodwill, and good neighborliness, and to develop a new vision for implementing infrastructure and investment projects for water resources in Iraq. And to adopt a vision that aims to allocate fair and equitable shared water." He pointed out that "the terms of t he agreement also included cooperation through joint projects to improve water management in the Tigris and Euphrates basins and inviting Turkish companies to cooperate in the infrastructure of irrigation projects such as closed irrigation systems and water harvesting dams, lining canals, installing filtration and desalination plants, and water treatment projects, in addition to exchange experiences, information, training and development for workers in the field of water management.'
