The Ministry of Water Resources discussed, today, Monday, activating the work of the "Measuring Stations" team with the Syrian side. A statement by the Ministry stated: "A virtual meeting was held at the ministry's headquarters with the Syrian side, headed by the Iraqi side, Minister of Water Resources Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, and the Syrian side was represented by Hussein Makhlouf, Minister of Water Resources in the Syrian Republic." The statement added that "Minister Dhiab conveyed the greetings of the Prime Minister to the Syrian government, as the water file in Iraq receives direct attention from the highest authorities, explaining the historical depth between the two countries." It pointed out that "the meeting included a review of the water situation between the two countries in accordance with international agreements and data related to implementing the obligations under those agreements signed between the two countries, in addition to discussing the mechanism for activating the work of the measuring s tations team formed with the Syrian side." The statement continued, "The two sides agreed to set a date for the team to conduct field visits to joint measurement stations and exchange expertise between the two countries by continuing to train staff in a number of specializations, including the mechanism for investing groundwater, legal legislation, irrigation with closed pipes, and conducting field visits to gain experience that would develop the irrigation system between the two countries." The statement explained that "the two sides also agreed to continue exchanging data and information and continue holding ministerial and technical meetings, whether in person or virtually, and to focus on the mechanism of cooperation in the field of confronting the impact of climate change on the irrigation reality between the two countries." It pointed out that "the Syrian minister, for his part, affirmed his government's support and cooperation with the Iraqi people and welcomed any initiative that would develop the water sector in the country."
