MWL Chief Chairs Third Session of Council of Islamic Leaders in North and South America

Washington: Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa chaired the third session of the Council of Islamic Leaders in North and South America in Washington. The council was established in line with the principles of the Charter of Makkah following its founding conference held in Washington in March 2022 with the participation of Muslim leaders from across the Americas. The closing session also brought together supportive participants, including American officials, lawmakers, and leaders representing religious diversity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, during the meeting, participants discussed a range of topics, including religious and national identity, with Al-Issa emphasizing that there is no contradiction between the two in civilized constitutions and laws that respect religious diversity. He stressed that extremist ideologies are responsible for creating such perceived conflicts.

The MWL chief also praised the Muslim community in the United States for distancing itself from extremist agendas that have reduced Islam to narrow political goals and distorted perceptions. He noted that the American Muslim community is a source of pride in the wider Islamic world, praising its members for embodying values of religious moderation, tolerance, coexistence, wisdom, and good conduct, particularly respect for public order and laws.

Al-Issa also commended the community's contribution to social cohesion, reflected in its strong relations with various segments of society.
