Jeddah: The fifth session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water concluded today in Jeddah under the theme 'From Vision to Impact.' Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley was elected president of the conference.
According to Saudi Press Agency, in his address, Alfadley emphasized that achieving water security is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and a cornerstone of societal well-being. He noted that the member states of the OIC, like many others worldwide, are facing growing challenges resulting from population growth, economic expansion, and the impacts of climate change, all of which increase water demand and exacerbate droughts, floods, and related disasters.
Alfadley called on member states to enhance water-use efficiency, develop resilient infrastructure, and secure adequate funding to ensure universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation services.
The conference also addressed strengthening cooperation and expanding partnerships among OIC member states, while exploring opportunities to leverage modern technologies and digital transformation to support sustainable water resource planning and management efforts.
