Doha: The State of Qatar underlined before the UN Security Council that the success of the first phase of the Gaza Strip agreement is a collective responsibility, crucial for its implementation, the comprehensive cessation of hostilities, and the achievement of peace and stability in the region, in full compliance with international law.
According to Saudi Press Agency, in a statement delivered at the quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East, Qatar highlighted its two years of continuous mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States, which recently led to an agreement to end the bloodshed. This mediation has also previously resulted in humanitarian truces for delivering aid and releasing prisoners and detainees.
Doha welcomed the UN General Assembly's adoption of the New York Declaration on the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, appreciating the leadership roles of Saudi Arabia and France in this regard. It also welcomed the countries that have recognized the State of Palestine and affirmed Palestine's right to full membership in the United Nations.
Qatar emphasized the necessity of rejecting measures that undermine the peaceful settlement and the two-state solution, such as settlement expansion in the West Bank, settler violence, and the seizure of Palestinian land. It reaffirmed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian territories and of the unified Palestinian state.
Qatar expressed its strongest condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's approval of two draft laws aimed at imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, viewing them as a challenge to international law. It urged the international community, particularly the Security Council, to take urgent action to compel the Israeli occupation authorities to halt their expansionist plans and settlement policies.
