Riyadh Launches Saudi Athletics Grand Prix 2026 with Broad Global Participation

Riyadh: Riyadh is set to host the inaugural Saudi Athletics Grand Prix on May 15 and 16 at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Stadium, with the participation of 200 to 300 athletes representing more than 50 countries, competing in 31 track and field events for men and women.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Managing Director of the Saudi Athletics Federation Majed Basonbul said the launch of the Grand Prix reflects the Kingdom's growing presence on the international sports stage and the rapid development of Saudi athletics, noting that it represents a strategic step to strengthen the Kingdom's position as a key player in the sport globally.

The event is being organized in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to establish the Kingdom as a global sports destination. It also marks the beginning of an ambitious pathway toward launching the Saudi Elite Athletics League in 2027, contributing to the development of the sport regionally and internationally.
