Riyadh: The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), represented by the General Department of Laboratories, has obtained the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management System certification from the global accreditation body British Standards Institution (BSI), in recognition of its implementation of an integrated AI management framework. The ISO/IEC 42001 standard is the world's first international standard for an Artificial Intelligence Management System.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this achievement reflects SASO laboratories' commitment to adopting international best practices in the development, deployment, and use of artificial intelligence technologies, including machine learning and deep learning models, within a structured, secure, and responsible administrative framework that ensures reliability of outputs, accuracy of results, and effective risk management.
Artificial intelligence is currently being used in SASO laboratories to automate the verification of air-conditioner energy-efficiency test results, improving the quality, speed, and accuracy of work, reducing human error, enhancing procedural efficiency, and supporting sound technical decision-making.
This milestone underscores SASO's ongoing role in establishing exemplary governance practices for emerging technologies and promoting the responsible use of AI in technical and regulatory environments, thereby strengthening laboratory readiness to keep pace with future technological transformations and ensuring sustainable performance in line with internationally recognized standards.
