Saudi Arabia Achieves Milestone with First Robotic Breast Reconstruction Surgery

Riyadh:The General Department of Medical Services at the Ministry of Interior, represented by Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh, has successfully performed the first robotic-assisted breast reconstruction surgery in Saudi Arabia.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the procedure was conducted on a 43-year-old woman who had previously undergone a nipple- and skin-sparing mastectomy due to a breast cancer diagnosis. The specialized medical team utilized robotic-assisted techniques to carry out the complex procedure.

The surgery involved harvesting tissue, skin, and fat from the patient's abdominal area, which were then transferred to her chest using microsurgical techniques. This approach, typically performed using conventional methods, requires meticulous planning and a highly skilled medical team.

The use of robotic technology in this procedure offers significant advantages, such as preserving the integrity of the abdominal wall through minimally invasive surgery with very small incisions. This method reduces the likelihood of complications typically associated with conventional surgery.

This achievement underscores the advances in modern surgical technologies and highlights the efforts of the General Department of Medical Services at the Ministry of Interior. Their focus is on adopting the latest medical and surgical technologies to enhance specialized healthcare services and improve the quality of care provided to beneficiaries.
