Saudi Arabia Advocates for Global Cooperation in AI Risk Management

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia, representing the Arab Group, addressed the United Nations General Assembly's dialogue with the Co-Chairs of the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing the necessity of international collaboration to ensure the responsible use of AI for sustainable development.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the statement was delivered by Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations. The Kingdom expressed support for the execution of the Global Digital Compact outcomes and the formation of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI. It stressed the significance of ongoing dialogue and collaboration among governments, the United Nations, the private sector, academic institutions, and civil society.

Saudi Arabia highlighted the critical role Member States should play in future AI governance structures while respecting each country's sovereign right to develop national policies on AI technologies based on their development priorities and needs.

On behalf of the Arab Group, the Kingdom underscored the importance of creating ethical frameworks for AI use, focusing on transparency, reliability, and accountability. These frameworks should protect privacy, uphold human rights, and consider cultural and societal values.

The Kingdom also pointed out the necessity of addressing the risks associated with AI misuse, such as misinformation, deepfakes, and cyberattacks, to maintain public trust in these technologies and promote their safe and effective use globally.
