Riyadh: The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with Kuwait's Environment Public Authority, has initiated a series of virtual training and technical workshops in September and October 2026. This initiative is part of a memorandum of understanding between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait focused on environmental protection, rehabilitation, and conservation.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the center is organizing five specialized workshops aimed at combating desertification and restoring degraded land. These workshops are designed to contribute to the development of policies and strategies to address desertification, reduce land degradation, support decision-making, and protect ecosystems.
The workshops will emphasize the significance of green belts in mitigating sand encroachment and will showcase Saudi Arabia's experience in the integrated management of invasive plant species, highlighting the outcomes achieved in this domain.
This initiative underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing cooperation and sharing expertise in combating desertification, restoring degraded lands, and improving methods for assessing land degradation. It also aligns with efforts to protect ecosystems, advance the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, and contribute to global climate action.
