New York:Saudi Arabia has called for collective international action to enhance global water security and transform multilateral commitments into concrete outcomes that bolster public health, food security, economic development, and climate resilience.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this call was made during a high-level ministerial session titled "United for Water A Call for Collective Action," which was co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and Senegal. The session, held in collaboration with the Global Water Organization, took place on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. It brought together ministers, senior officials, multilateral development banks, and United Nations agencies along with leaders from the water sector.
Dr. Fahd Balghunaim, Head of the Founding Team of the Global Water Organization, noted that the session tackled the increasing pressures on water resources. The focus was on aligning funding with priority needs, expanding high-impact innovations, improving data access, and strengthening institutional implementation capacity.
Participants in the session examined national strategies for resilience, sustainable funding mechanisms, and scalable cross-border partnerships. They highlighted the Global Water Organization's role as an institutional platform that connects governments with necessary financing, technical expertise, and operational coordination.
