New york: Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil co-chaired the 'Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development' event alongside Permanent Representative of Pakistan Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the event was organized by the UN Group of Friends for Digital Cooperation in partnership with the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. This took place on the sidelines of the UN Science, Technology, and Innovation Forum in New York.
In his opening remarks, Alwasil emphasized that digital innovation has become a key driver of economic growth, social inclusion, and sustainable development. He highlighted the Kingdom's progress in digital infrastructure, data, and innovation, as well as efforts to enhance quality of life under Saudi Vision 2030.
He underscored the importance of international digital cooperation in bridging the digital divide and supporting developing countries in benefiting from modern technologies. He noted that the Kingdom's support for the UN Group of Friends for Digital Cooperation and the DCO reflects its commitment to multilateral partnerships in achieving sustainable development.
Alwasil also stressed the importance of creating conducive environments for digital transformation through supportive policies, investment, and capacity building. These efforts contribute to accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
