Saudi Arabia Engages in Global Regulatory Discussions at ITU Meeting in Georgia

Tbilisi: Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), participated in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)'s Digital Regulation Network (DRN) board meeting hosted by the Georgian National Communications Commission (ComCom) in Tbilisi.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting was attended by CST's Deputy Governor for Regulation and Competition, Eng. Omar Alrejraji, who is also a member of the network's board. The gathering was chaired by Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), Dr. Cosmas Zavazava. The board members engaged in discussions on preparations and strategic directions for the 2026 edition of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR). The focus was on shaping the global regulatory agenda and identifying priority topics for the upcoming symposium. The board also emphasized initiatives to be adopted within regional regulatory associations to foster sustainable digital transformation.

In addition, Alrejraji participated in a panel discussion titled "Future of the Internet: WSIS Processes, Multistakeholder Cooperation." He underscored Saudi Arabia's significant role in supporting global collaboration in the Communication, Space, and Technology sectors through CST's initiatives and projects with the ITU. He also discussed strategies for accelerating sustainable digital transformation, maintaining cross-sector coordination, and enhancing the regulatory environment through international cooperation.

The DRN was established to accelerate sustainable digital transformation by addressing challenges and opportunities, and exchanging best practices through collaborative mechanisms in digital regulation across economic sectors. The network comprises 13 entities representing regulatory authorities from various regions, aiming to bolster international cooperation in the digital economy and support innovation and investment.
