Saudi Arabia Engages in UN Committee’s 69th Session on Space Utilization

Vienna: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Space Agency (SSA), took part in the 69th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). The event was held in Vienna from June 10 to 18, 2026.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia's participation underscores its dedication to fostering international collaboration and advocating for the peaceful and sustainable utilization of outer space. The Kingdom emphasized its ongoing efforts in the space domain and initiatives related to the committee's agenda, which includes leveraging space technologies for communication and environmental sustainability.

The session covered several vital topics, such as the long-term sustainability of outer space endeavors, the implementation of the Space2030 Agenda, the future role of the committee and its operational methodologies. Additionally, reports from the committee's Scientific and Technical Subcommittee and Legal Subcommittee were reviewed.

The Saudi delegation took the opportunity to highlight the Kingdom's legislative and regulatory progress within the space sector. This includes the Space Law project, its implementing regulations, and other regulatory documents that govern the space sector in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the delegation proposed enhancements to the committee's operational mechanisms to bolster its efficiency.
