Riyadh: The Kingdom's public transport sector is undergoing a rapid transformation, led by the Transport General Authority (TGA), to enhance urban mobility and quality of life. Marking World Public Transport Day, observed annually on April 17, this evolution is driven by robust legislative frameworks and a new bill of rights for users, ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, and service reliability across all modes of transit.
According to Saudi Press Agency, TGA has significantly expanded its urban bus network to cover 17 cities and governorates, utilizing modern, tech-equipped fleets that operate on precise schedules. On the international stage, Saudi Arabia has solidified its leadership by securing the presidency of the International Association of Public Transport Executive Committee for the MENA region. This partnership underscores the Kingdom's commitment to adopting eco-friendly transport solutions and reducing carbon emissions in line with global sustainability goals.
Integration remains a core priority, with taxi services and ride-hailing apps now bridging vital gaps in the urban transit system. Notable advancements include the activation of specialized taxi contracts in Makkah, featuring vehicles equipped with real-time translation, tracking systems, and enhanced accessibility for people with disabilities. Furthermore, the launch of a unique visual identity for taxis in AlUla reflects the destination's cultural character, ensuring that transportation is a seamless part of the visitor experience and a pillar of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
