Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Marks 70 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Japan

Osaka: The Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka is set to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Japan. On June 7, 1955, the two nations established diplomatic relations, which laid the groundwork for a longstanding partnership that has evolved into a multifaceted alliance fostering cultural exchange and diplomatic cooperation, with substantial economic benefits for both countries.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the two countries have further solidified their partnership by signing a memorandum in February to establish a Strategic Partnership Council. Dr. Ghazi Faisal binzagr, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Japan and Commissioner General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, emphasized the depth and diversity of Saudi-Japanese relations. He affirmed that these relations have grown beyond an economic partnership, serving as a testament to the historical and ongoing collaboration between the two countries. Dr. binzagr highlighted the significance of both Expo 2025 in Osaka and Expo 2030 in Riyadh as platforms for showcasing innovations and sustainable technologies, contributing to a shared inclusive future.

The Saudi pavilion at Expo 2025 will host numerous commercial events aimed at bolstering trade and investment ties between Saudi Arabia and Japan. These events will include presentations from the Ministries of Investment and Commerce, focusing on the opportunities presented by the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Trade between the two nations has seen impressive growth over the past decade, increasing from $33.4 billion to over $41 billion.

A key objective of the Saudi pavilion is to increase Japanese tourism to the Kingdom, with a target of attracting 30,000 Japanese visitors annually ahead of Expo 2030 Riyadh. This effort is part of the Saudi-Japanese Vision 2030 strategy, which encompasses more than 80 projects across nine sectors, including culture, food and agricultural security, media and entertainment, medical care, advanced infrastructure, finance and investment, competitive industries, energy, small and medium enterprises, sports, and education. The cultural exchange between the countries is illustrated through the Kingdom's promotion of Japanese culture in the Middle East, notably through local Manga studios, whose productions will be featured in the Saudi pavilion in August.

The pavilion promises over 700 engaging activities, ranging from daily shows to live performing arts, offering an immersive experience for the more than 500,000 visitors since the exhibition's opening in April. The pavilion will host a series of special events on September 23 in celebration of Saudi National Day.
