Geneva: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), signed a memorandum of understanding with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to provide a grant of $39 million in support of global programs to combat AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. According to Saudi Press Agency, the memorandum was signed in Geneva by Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development Sultan Al-Marshad and Executive Director of the Global Fund Peter Sands, in the presence of Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila. The memorandum aims to support global efforts to combat AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, enhance the efficiency of health and community systems, and strengthen prevention, treatment, and care services. It also supports community health services in developing countries during the 2026-2028 period. During the signing, Al-Marshad affirmed the Kingdom's efforts and contributions, through the SFD, to advancing global health and combating diseases and epidemics worldwide. He stressed the importance of ensuring the delivery of essential health programs to the most vulnerable communities, while strengthening health systems and supporting long-term sustainable development globally. For his part, Executive Director of the Global Fund Peter Sands stated that Saudi Arabia has been a committed partner of the Global Fund since its establishment. He noted that the $39 million pledge reflects the Kingdom's continued leadership in global health and contributes to strengthening health systems and building resilience against future health challenges, benefiting communities worldwide. Saudi Arabia's total contributions to the Global Fund, through the SFD, have exceeded $200 million since 2002, reflecting a strong development partnership and reaffirming the Kingdom's leading role in supporting global health and enhancing the capacity of health systems to address global challenges.
