Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Transformation at WSIS Forum

Geneva: Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in Geneva Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila delivered Saudi Arabia's speech at the opening of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, reaffirming the Kingdom's commitment to supporting the summit's objectives and strengthening the role of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and international agencies in building inclusive and sustainable digital societies.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Bin Khothaila emphasized that the world is experiencing a rapid acceleration in digital transformation and the development of emerging technologies, creating significant opportunities for growth, innovation, and progress. He also emphasized the shared responsibility of the international community to ensure that technological progress serves humanity and enhances societal well-being, underscoring the importance of continued international collaboration to maximize the developmental impact of digital technologies and keep pace with the rapid global transformation.

Bin Khothaila noted that Saudi Arabia views international collaboration as the cornerstone of building a prosperous and inclusive digital future, highlighting the Kingdom's active role since joining the ITU in 1949 and its national achievements, including its high rankings in the Digital Readiness Index and the ICT Development Index, as well as its progress in enhancing women's participation in the ICT sector.

He further highlighted Saudi Arabia's continued contribution to strengthening the global digital cooperation ecosystem through the launch of the Roadmap to Connect Humanity and Advance Digital Inclusion, as well as capacity-building programs that have trained more than 1,500 specialists from 190 countries through the Digital Regulatory Academy. Bin Khothaila reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to working closely with the ITU to strengthen international cooperation and harness technology to advance sustainable development.

He concluded his speech by confirming Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting the ITU's mission of connecting the world, building human capacity, and strengthening digital trust.
