Rafha: The Orion Nebula has been documented in high resolution over Rafha Governorate in Northern Borders Region, showcasing one of the most renowned nebulae. It is a prominent star-forming region visible to the naked eye within the Orion constellation.
According to Saudi Press Agency, member of the Afaq Society for Astronomy Burjas Al-Falih stated that the Orion Nebula is a diffuse or emission nebula located south of the Orion Belt. It consists of dense clouds of dust and gas formed from an ancient stellar explosion, serving as a factory for dwarf stars.
Al-Falih noted that the nebula is among the brightest in the sky and can be easily observed without equipment. It is approximately 1,350 light-years from Earth, with a light-year defined as the distance light travels at 300,000 kilometers per second-nearly 9 trillion kilometers.
He emphasized that the Orion Nebula is one of the most studied and beautiful celestial objects, reflecting the complexity of the universe's formations. It will be visible in the Arabian Peninsula during winter and spring nights, often within the Gemini constellation, which features many distinctive nebulae appealing to astrophotography enthusiasts, including the Horsehead Nebula.
