Saudi Handball Team Qualifies for 2027 World Championship in Germany

Riyadh: The Saudi national handball team will participate in the 30th edition of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Men's World Championship, scheduled to be held in Germany in 2027, after securing qualification through a wild card entry.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi team was one of two national teams awarded wild card places by the IHF, alongside Trkiye, following a review of applications submitted by 13 national federations. The selection was based on criteria that included each federation's contribution to the development of handball, promotion of the sport globally, and ongoing efforts to advance the game within their respective countries.

The Saudi national team is regarded as one of Asia's leading handball teams and has played a significant role in supporting the sport's development across the continent. Its qualification reflects the growing stature of handball in the Kingdom and the progress achieved in recent years.

The 2027 World Championship will mark Saudi Arabia's 11th appearance in the tournament. The team's most recent participation came in the 2023 edition, as it continues to strengthen its international presence and gain experience at the highest levels of global competition.

The tournament draw is scheduled to take place tomorrow in Munich to determine the preliminary-round matchups for the 32 participating teams. Saudi Arabia has been placed in Pot 4 alongside the national teams of Qatar, Kuwait, Japan, Algeria, Angola, Uruguay, and Trkiye.
