Riyadh:The medical and surgical team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program successfully separated Moroccan conjoined twins Saja and Doha at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital at King Abdulaziz Medical City of the Ministry of National Guard on Thursday.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), announced that the operation was completed in six hours, encompassing six distinct stages.
The procedure involved 23 consultants, specialists, nurses, and technicians from various fields, including anesthesiology, pediatric surgery, and plastic surgery. The twins were conjoined at the lower chest and abdomen, sharing the pericardium, liver, and intestines.
This operation marks the fourth separation of Moroccan conjoined twins and the 73rd under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program. Over 35 years, the program has evaluated 159 cases from 28 countries, showcasing Saudi Arabia's prominent role in humanitarian and medical efforts. Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted that the program's success is supported by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The twins' family expressed gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for their care and commended the medical team's dedication.
