Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and OCA Postpone 2029 Asian Winter Games to Focus on Individual Championships

Riyadh: The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have agreed to postpone the 2029 Asian Winter Games and instead focus on hosting individual winter sports championships in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The initiative aims to foster the development of winter sports and provide athletes from Saudi Arabia and West Asia with additional time to prepare for future competitions. According to Saudi Press Agency, the decision highlights the strategic cooperation between SOPC and OCA, underscoring their shared commitment to promoting winter sports in the region. OCA has commended Saudi Arabia's efforts to formulate sustainable plans for winter sports, emphasizing that the new strategic approach supports the long-term development of winter sports in Asia and builds a technical framework for growth in West Asia. SOPC has reiterated its dedication to advancing sports across all disciplines, including winter sports, through various initiatives. These include athlete developme nt programs, infrastructure expansion, and the hosting of international events, all in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
