Saudi Road Code Introduces New Parking Regulations to Boost Traffic Safety

Riyadh:The Roads General Authority (RGA) has announced that the Saudi Road Code now includes technical requirements designed to regulate roadside parking locations, aiming to enhance traffic safety. These measures are part of broader efforts to improve the quality of life and elevate safety and efficiency standards across the country's road network.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the new requirements stipulate that there must be a minimum distance of 15 meters between the stopping zone at traffic signals and the first parking space at signalized intersections. At non-signalized intersections, a minimum distance of six meters must be maintained between the intersection and the first parking space.

Additionally, the regulations require a safe distance to be maintained between pedestrian crossings and parking spaces. Parallel parking spaces must be separated with dividers to prevent gaps from being used as vehicle lanes.

The RGA emphasized that the Saudi Road Code serves as a comprehensive technical reference for all entities responsible for the road sector, including ministries, city development authorities, regional secretariats, and municipalities. It provides essential information, guidelines, technical drawings, procedures, and checklists for planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining all types of roads, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.

The authority reiterated its commitment to creating a unified and transparent legislative and regulatory framework that guarantees policy integration and regulatory compliance, including the development of policies and regulations such as the Saudi Road Code.
