Taif: The sports sector in Taif Governorate has become a major driver of the tourism sector. The governorate has transformed into a destination for major sporting events throughout the year, benefiting from its mild climate, diverse terrain, advanced infrastructure, and sports facilities. This reflects the growing role of sports tourism as an economic driver supporting tourism sector development.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Taif hosts a series of local and international competitions in various sports each year, most notably the Crown Prince Camel Festival. It also hosts cycling events, mountain hiking, running races, and community sports activities that attract thousands of participants and visitors from within and outside Saudi Arabia.
Sports and sports tourism specialist at Taif University Dr. Atiyah Haddadi told the Saudi Press Agency that Taif has the characteristics that have made it one of the Kingdom's leading cities in this field. Its geographic location combines a mild climate, mountainous terrain, and roads suitable for hosting various sports, along with extensive experience in organizing major sporting events.
He added that major sporting events are no longer limited to competitions. They now offer an integrated range of accompanying experiences, including hospitality areas, restaurants, caf©s, entertainment events, heritage shows, traditional crafts, local product exhibitions, and historical and cultural activities that reflect the authenticity of Saudi heritage. This gives visitors an experience that combines sports, entertainment, and culture in one destination.
