Riyadh: The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) has launched the energy efficiency project at Imam Abdulrahman Al Faisal Hospital, which entails implementing a comprehensive retrofitting program in the hospital's buildings and facilities in Riyadh. Following the implementation of the program, there will be a 30% reduction in energy consumption in 13 buildings covering a total area of 27,000 square meters, by utilizing best-in-class standards. According to Saudi Press Agency, Tarshid Managing Director and CEO Waled bin Abdullah Al-Ghreri stated in a press release that following comprehensive on-site surveys and technical studies, Tarshid identified 11 key areas where energy efficiency measures may be taken, focusing on HVAC lighting, and control systems. The project will involve replacing chillers and several split and packaged air conditioning units with more energy-efficient models. The release added that the project also entails installing control systems for air conditioning units, chilled water p umps, air handling units, and cooling fans. A building management system and occupancy sensors in rooms and clinics will also be installed. Furthermore, the project will retrofit existing lighting with high-performance, energy-saving LED systems. It aims to reduce annual electricity consumption from approximately 11 million kilowatt-hours to 7.8 million kilowatt-hours, with 30% energy savings, and to improve the performance of air conditioning and lighting equipment. This reduction equates to conserving over 5,000 barrels of oil equivalent and avoiding approximately 2,000 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions - the equivalent of planting more than 32,000 seedlings annually. Tarshid was established in 2017; it became the leading company in the energy services sector through promoting energy and operational efficiency, and renewable energy. Tarshid's mission aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to achieve significant energy savings and reduce carbon emissions as part of the Kingdom's strategic sustainability goals.
