Tarshid Launches Energy Retrofit Project at Yanbu University College to Cut Energy Consumption by 16%

The National Energy Efficiency Services Company (Tarshid), in collaboration with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, has launched an energy retrofit project at the Yanbu University College male branch, aimed at enhancing energy efficiency at the college's buildings and facilities.

Through this project, Tarshid seeks to increase energy efficiency and reduce consumption in all 13 buildings, following the best global standards.

Tarshid Managing Director and CEO Waled Al-Ghreri said in a press release issued today that the company conducted field surveys and technical studies on the buildings and facilities, within the project's scope, and that the studies highlighted the importance of increasing energy efficiency and reducing consumption.

According to the release, the company identified five main standards for improving energy efficiency entailing control systems, air conditioning, and lighting, as well as installing a management system for cooling stations and smart motion sensors to control the lighting system.

Tarshid will also retrofit the lighting systems, replacing the existing traditional lighting with energy-efficient LED systems that perform well in operational environments.

The project's annual electricity consumption is estimated to be reduced from approximately 15 million kilowatt-hours to 12 million kilowatt-hours after the completion of the retrofitting work, a decrease of approximately 16%. This reduction is expected to result in savings equivalent to more than 3,900 barrels of oil equivalent and avoid discharging approximately 1,400 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions. This environmental impact is comparable to planting over 23,000 seedlings annually, said the release.

Tarshid said it is committed to supporting the Kingdom's strategic sustainability goal, as outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to achieve significant energy savings and reduce carbon emissions.
