Tga: The number of passengers using public transit buses within cities and governorates across Saudi Arabia rose 23.2% in the second quarter of 2026 to more than 26.34 million, compared with the same quarter last year, according to the quarterly bulletin issued by the Transport General Authority (TGA).
According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority said that the growth reflects increased demand for bus transportation in cities and the advanced technical features of buses that comply with the highest operational standards. The results also build on TGA's ongoing efforts in cooperation with partner entities from the public and private sectors.
Riyadh ranked first among regions and cities in terms of passenger numbers, recording 20.07 million passengers, followed by Makkah with 2.97 million and Jeddah with 1.19 million.
Elsewhere across Saudi Arabia, Dammam and Qatif Governorate recorded 835,000 passengers, while Madinah recorded around 490,000, followed by Qassim with 273,000, Taif with 194,000, Al-Ahsa with 135,000, Jazan with 120,000 and Tabuk with 56,000.
