The Year of the Camel Given Prominence at Saudi Cultural Week in Greece

The Saudi Cultural Week, organized by the Ministry of Culture and set to take place here from September 27 to October 1, will be an occasion to highlight the living testament to the region's authenticity and an important element that shaped the national identity: the camel. 2024 was designated the Year of the Camel in the Kingdom; in Athens, a pavilion dedicated to it will underscore the significance of the camel and its historical role in Arab culture. The pavilion will present the deep-rooted relationship between the Saudi people and the camel, emphasizing the civilizational and historical role camels play for humans. The camel was not merely a mode of transportation but symbolized loyalty and authenticity. It held a central place in Arabic literature, featuring in the opening and closing of many poems and stories, reflecting the enduring bond between humans and camels throughout the ages. Through the pavilion in Athens, the Ministry of Culture aims to present the camel as a Saudi cultural symbol, showin g its connection to Saudis' lives from ancient times to the present day. It will be an occasion for international cultural exchange related to the camel, highlighting the exceptional capabilities that have earned it a prominent position in Saudi culture, thus raising awareness about the Kingdom's rich cultural heritage, a goal of the National Culture Strategy under Vision 2030.
