Jeddah: Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Ports Authority 'Mawani' Saleh Al-Jasser launched the Logistics Corridors Initiative in the presence of Governor of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) Suhail Abanmi and Mawani President Suliman Al-Mazroua, along with several officials from government entities and the logistics sector. According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative aims to establish dedicated operational corridors to receive containers and cargo redirected from ports in the Eastern Region and ports in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to Jeddah Islamic Port and other Saudi ports on the Red Sea coast. It seeks to enhance supply-chain efficiency and facilitate the movement of goods between the Kingdom's ports. During the tour, the minister highlighted the strong support provided to the transport and logistics system by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salm an bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He affirmed that the Kingdom continues to ensure supply-chain stability, support regional and international markets, and maintain the smooth flow of goods through global trade routes. He said Jeddah Islamic Port and other Saudi ports on the western coast play a key role in accommodating shipments and containers redirected from eastern ports in the Kingdom. They also receive cargo arriving from ports in Gulf countries and link them to regional and international markets. Minister Al-Jasser emphasized the high readiness of the transport and logistics system and its ability to respond quickly to supply-chain demands. He noted that the strength of the Kingdom's infrastructure and the flexibility of logistics services have enabled rapid responses to current shifts and the activation of alternative logistics corridors to maintain trade flows and supply chains in the region. 'The transport and logistics system, supported by the leadership's facilitation, i s operating efficiently by boosting the operational capacity of ports, airports, and transport networks to ensure stable supply chains and support local and regional markets," the minister said. During the visit, the minister also chaired a meeting at the command and control center of Jeddah Islamic Port, where he received a briefing on cargo-handling operations, vessel traffic, and loading and unloading activities. He toured container terminals, logistics zones, and re-export centers at the port and met port workers, commending their efforts and the coordination between public and private sector entities in implementing the leadership's directives in the sector. Jeddah Islamic Port is the largest hub port on the Red Sea and a major logistics center in the region. Saudi ports on the Red Sea coast have a combined capacity exceeding 18.6 million TEUs annually, strengthening their ability to support international trade and accommodate shifts in global supply-chain routes.
