Urgent Surgery Saves Afghan Pilgrim from Duodenal Perforation in Mecca

Mecca: Rapid intervention within the urgent care system, a component of the Saudi healthcare model, ended the suffering of an Afghan pilgrim experiencing severe abdominal pain due to a duodenal perforation. A specialized medical team at Heraa General Hospital, part of the Makkah Health Cluster, performed an urgent surgery to close the perforation and remove a purulent collection in the abdomen.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Makkah Health Cluster reported that the patient was admitted through the emergency department in critical condition. He was suffering from severe abdominal inflammation, fever, nausea, and persistent vomiting. Immediate tests and x-rays were conducted, along with an exploratory abdominal operation, which identified a duodenal perforation and abdominal pus collection as the source of his severe pain.

The patient was admitted for surgery, which involved a specialized medical team and lasted approximately an hour and a half. The operation was successful, and the patient received the necessary treatment. Following the completion of the prescribed treatment plan, it was decided to discharge the patient, who has since recovered and is able to continue with the Hajj rituals.

The health cluster emphasized that early detection and rapid response are crucial for improving surgical outcomes in cases of duodenal ulcer complications, such as abdominal pus accumulation and peritonitis. Increasing community awareness about potential symptoms and the importance of swift medical intervention can significantly reduce complication rates and improve health outcomes for individuals.
