Violent Storm Leaves Tens of Thousands Without Power Across Baltic States

Riyadh: The strongest summer storm to hit Latvia and Lithuania left tens of thousands of households without electricity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Lithuania's national electricity operator reported that power had yet to be restored to more than 120,000 households, while more than 87,000 households in neighboring Latvia remained without electricity.

The storm claimed two lives as it swept across the region on Saturday, bringing winds of up to 108 km/h. Powerful winds uprooted trees and snapped branches, causing extensive damage to the electricity distribution network.

Heavy rainfall also triggered flooding in several areas, disrupting road and rail traffic, flights, and maritime shipping.
