Al-Hakim calls on governments to provide a safe and reassuring space for media and journalist workers to work freely and professionally

The Head of the National Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, called on governments to provide a safe and reassuring space for media and journalist workers to work freely and professionally.

Al-Hakim said on the World Press Freedom Day: We appeal to the international organization, especially UNESCO, to make the occasion an opportunity to remind governments of the need to fulfill their commitments towards freedom of the press, and to provide a safe and reassuring space for media and journalist workers to work freely and professionally, to convey facts in various parts of the world without fraud, forgery, bridging or intimidation.

He added: The anniversary is also an opportunity to commemorate those journalists who sacrificed their lives for the message of the profession and the word of truth.

He continued, among the fruits of the young democracy that we live in Iraq, we are pleased that there is no prisoner of conscience in Iraq, and from here I call on everyone not to exploit this wide space of freedom by infringing on the rights and space of others and the need to respect religious, national, sectarian and even political diversity and pluralism.
