Riyadh:The General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars has declared the Houthi militia a terrorist group, citing its attacks on civilians and civilian facilities in Yemen, which have compromised security and fueled division. The group has been accused of aggression against innocent people, violations of sanctities, and attempted attacks on the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, actions described as constituting terrorism by any measure.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the secretariat issued a statement on Wednesday condemning the Houthi militia's actions as revealing the extent of their terrorism and audacity in violating Allah's sanctities. The attempted attacks on Makkah and Madinah were specifically highlighted as grave acts of terrorism.
The statement further compared the militia's terrorism to that of extremist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda, emphasizing that the Houthi's actions not only spread corruption on earth but also constitute aggression against Muslims. The targeting of visitors to the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque was condemned as an even more serious sin and act of aggression.
The secretariat credited the thwarting of the militia's plans to the vigilance of the Saudi air defenses and the capabilities of the Saudi Armed Forces. It highlighted the various forms of aggression committed by the militia, including violations of the sanctity of human life, property, security, and stability, as well as attempts to violate the sanctity of Muslim holy sites.
The General Secretariat urged all Muslims to denounce the actions of the Houthi militia and to unite against any attacks on their holy sites.
