FAO Global Cookbook Highlights Farasan Women Fishers’ Contributions

Jazan:A global cookbook published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates the significant role of women fishers from the Farasan Islands in Jazan Region. The cookbook marks the International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026 and showcases their contributions to food production, traditional knowledge preservation, and community livelihood support.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the book features profiles of notable individuals such as Anbra Qasim, who has been working at sea for over 40 years. Anbra began her journey alongside her grandmother and other experienced fishers in Farasan and is now engaged in imparting fishing and food preparation skills to young women interested in learning the trade.

The FAO cookbook also includes a Saudi recipe for salted and dried fish served with a salad, highlighting the culinary heritage of the Farasan Governorate and the broader Jazan Region. This recipe exemplifies a traditional fish preservation method that has been handed down through generations within families.
