GEA Board Chairman Announces Usyk-Verhoeven ‘Glory in Giza’ Tickets on Sale Today

Cairo: General Entertainment Authority (GEA) Board of Directors Chairman, Saudi Boxing Federation President, and Advisor Turki Alalshikh announced that tickets for the anticipated bout between Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk and Dutch kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven, titled 'Glory in Giza,' will go on sale today, Sunday, at 5:00 p.m. Cairo time, reflecting the global anticipation surrounding this exceptional event.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the bout will take place on Saturday, May 23, at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, at a location that gives the event an unprecedented character. Unified world heavyweight champion Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) meets Verhoeven for the World Boxing Council (WBC) title, in a bout broadcast globally on DAZN.

The evening will feature a strong undercard that enhances the significance of the event, led by a bout for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) super middleweight title between Briton Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1) and German Alem Begic (29-0-1). Sheeraz returns for his first fight of 2026 following a fifth-round knockout win over Edgar Berlanga last July.

Briton Jack Catterall (32-2) meets unbeaten Uzbek Shakhram Giyasov (17-0) for the World Boxing Association (WBA Regular) welterweight title, following Catterall's recent win over Ekow Essuman in November.

In the heavyweight division, Cuban Frank Sanchez (25-1) takes on unbeaten American Richard Torrez Jr. (14-0), silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, as Sanchez defends his WBC Americas and WBO NABO titles. Undefeated Ukrainian Daniel Lapin (13-0) will defend his WBA, WBO, and IBF continental light heavyweight titles against Benjamin Mendes Tani (9-1).

Up-and-coming Saudi prospect Sultan Almohammed (3-0) continues his run on major cards with a bout against Indonesian Dedy Imprax (2-4) in the featherweight division. Egyptian Basem Mamdouh (10-2) faces unbeaten American Jamar Talley (6-0) on home soil, while emerging Egyptian talents are also featured, with Mahmoud Mobark vs Ali Sserunkuma and Omar Hikal vs Michael Kalyalya.

On the women's side, Japanese Mizuki Hiruta (10-0), Ring Magazine Female Fighter of the Year, defends her The Ring and WBO titles against Australian of Egyptian origin Mai Soliman (10-1).
