MEWA Emphasizes Environmental Practices for Hajj Pilgrims

Riyadh: The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) called on pilgrims to adopt positive environmental practices during the performance of their rituals, contributing to the cleanliness of the holy sites, enhancing the protection of ecosystems, supporting food and water security, and safeguarding natural resources and ensuring their sustainability.

According to Saudi Press Agency, with the approach of the 1447 AH Hajj season, the ministry highlighted the importance of adopting positive practices such as disposing of waste at designated sites, preserving vegetation cover, and avoiding harming or disturbing animals.

MEWA noted responsible and supportive practices to ensure environmental sustainability, including using sustainable ihram garments during Hajj, performing tahallul (leaving the state of ihram) at designated locations, conserving water, using eco-friendly, recyclable water bottles, and raising awareness on reducing food waste.

The ministry affirmed that these practices reflect pilgrims' level of environmental awareness and contribute to protecting natural resources and ensuring their sustainability for future generations, while enhancing environmental quality and reinforcing the concept of shared responsibility in preserving the holy sites.
