Riyadh: The Saudi Air Navigation Services Company (SANS) reported exceptional growth in the Kingdom's air traffic for 2024, underscoring its commitment to enhancing air navigation safety standards through various initiatives and improvements. Notably, SANS upgraded its safety management system and maintained a Level C rating, as defined by the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO). Additionally, the company achieved 95% of Level D, demonstrating its dedication to implementing the highest internationally recognized safety standards and procedures.
According to Saudi Press Agency, in terms of safety performance, SANS reported no serious or major incidents related to air navigation safety within Saudi airspace.
Further solidifying the Kingdom's role in civil aviation across the region, SANS was unanimously selected to host CANSO's regional office in Riyadh during a recent meeting of the organization.
Throughout 2024, Saudi Arabia's airspace experienced unprecedented traffic, with a total of more than 953,000 air movements-a growth rate of 14% compared to the previous year. Notable milestones included April 14, when the Kingdom recorded the highest number of flights in its aviation history with 3,137 air movements. Additionally, October 26 saw a record high of 1,215 transit flights.
Statistics reveal that domestic flights accounted for 261,000 air movements, marking a 14% increase from last year. Transit flights reached 255,000, reflecting a 22% growth, while international flights totaled 453,000, an increase of 10%.
These positive figures illustrate the sustainable development of Saudi Arabia's civil aviation sector, which continues to receive unwavering support.
In 2024, SANS also celebrated numerous achievements, winning 14 regional and international awards and certifications. Among its accolades, the company received the Best Places to Work certificate for the second consecutive year and secured first place in the Corporate Happiness Award within the Gulf Cooperation Council countries under the Diversity and Inclusion category.
