Sapodilla Cultivation in Jazan Supports Agricultural Economy

Jazan: Sapodilla trees are emerging as a promising crop within the tropical fruit system in Jazan Region. Originally from Central America, they have adapted to the Jazan environment, benefiting from available growth conditions that have encouraged many farmers to expand their cultivation due to their continuous production, nutritional value, and rewarding economic returns.

According to Saudi Press Agency, sapodilla trees are evergreen, long-lived, and medium-sized trees that can reach heights of around 20 meters. They produce brown fruits with soft, sweet pulp, with a taste similar to brown sugar, making them desirable in local markets.

The productive lifespan of sapodilla trees ranges between 25 and 30 years, with continued production when appropriate agricultural care is provided.

Local farmer Asim Al-Ahdal said that sapodilla trees are among the promising agricultural options in Jazan due to their ability to adapt to the local environment and their relative ease of care, noting the growing demand for them in local markets.
