Saudi Arabia Leads Arab Environment Ministers Meeting

Riyadh:The Executive Office of the Council of the Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs held its 62nd session at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom was represented by Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Dr. Osama Ibrahim Faqeeha. Representatives of the Executive Office member states and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States also attended the session.

The meeting focused on implementing decisions from the council's previous ministerial session and preparing for its 37th session, which is scheduled to be held tomorrow under the chairmanship of Yemen.

The Executive Office reviewed a draft agenda of 21 items related to international environmental agreements and meetings. This includes outcomes from the 24th meeting of the Arab team focused on biodiversity and combating desertification, as well as results from the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. Discussions also covered nature-based solutions, the interlinkages among water, agriculture, and environmental policies, and conventions on chemicals, waste, and ozone.

The Executive Office plans to submit the draft agenda and resolutions to the council for consideration and adoption.
