Saudi arabia: Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to supporting maritime safety and enhancing the resilience of global supply chains during its participation in the 111th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 111), held at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia emphasized that its participation comes amid the ongoing challenges and developments witnessed in the region, including developments related to the Strait of Hormuz and their impact on maritime navigation and international trade, highlighting the importance of international cooperation to ensure the smooth movement of maritime transport and the sustainability of supply chains.
Saudi Arabia also welcomed the adoption of the proposal for a draft MSC resolution, which Saudi Arabia proudly sponsored, stressing the significance of its provisions in addressing threats to maritime safety and the welfare of seafarers, while calling on the committee to take the necessary measures within its mandate.
The Kingdom also reiterated its support for the resolutions issued by the Extraordinary Session of the IMO Council condemning attacks that threaten the security of global trade, affirming that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway where the right of passage is guaranteed under international law.
In this context, Saudi Arabia reviewed a package of proactive measures and initiatives undertaken by its maritime and logistics ecosystem to ensure operational continuity, including activating alternative routes, enhancing transit services, and continuing to receive bookings from shipping lines without interruption.
These efforts also included launching more than 19 new maritime services and shipping lines to strengthen maritime connectivity, conducting more than 40 workshops and coordination meetings with partners from the public and private sectors, facilitating the movement of goods and containers, and enhancing regional logistics integration.
Saudi Arabia affirmed its continued commitment to working with the international maritime community under the umbrella of the International Maritime Organization, contributing to the stability of global trade and enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of the maritime sector.
