The Permanent Saudi Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Dr. Saleh bin Hamad Al-Suhaibani, received at the headquarters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s delegation in the branch of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region in Jeddah Governorate, Dr. Afnan bint Abdullah Al-Shuaibi, Executive Director of the Organization for the Development of Women in the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. .
The meeting reviewed the efforts of the Women's Development Organization in the field of advancing women, empowering them and preserving their rights in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as the targeted programs and activities that the organization intends to carry out to enhance women's capabilities and training in all fields and their role in supporting the goals of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The meeting also reviewed the challenges currently facing the organization, and how to overcome them.
Al-Suhaibani praised the efforts of the Women’s Development Organization and its ambitious plans to enhance the role of women and the importance of this role in the development of Islamic societies, in addition to improving their access to high-quality health care and services, economic empowerment and social protection for them from violence, disasters, armed conflicts, as well as humanitarian crises, and their empowerment in those areas and their role in supporting Objectives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. For her part, Al-Shuaibi appreciated the efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to empower women and recognize their role, and its announcement of hosting the “International Conference on Women in Islam... Status and Empowerment,” in coordination with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, stressing that such a conference demonstrates women’s rights guaranteed by Islamic law. It confirms the Kingdom’s active role in enhancing the status of women and empowering them in all fields, and its continuing role in supporting the objectives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and its efforts aimed at preserving the rights of Muslim women and enhancing their role in development in member states.
It is noteworthy that the Ministerial Council of the Organization for the Development of Women in the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation agreed more than two years ago to choose Dr. Afnan Al-Shuaibi, the candidate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as Executive Director of the organization, which is the first international organization specialized in women’s affairs in the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and aims to empower Women, their development, care and support in areas related to them in member states.
