New york: Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil affirmed today that the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most vital maritime chokepoints for international trade and global energy security.
According to Saudi Press Agency, speaking during a joint press conference held by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the United States regarding a draft resolution on freedom of navigation, Alwasil stated that any threat to the navigation in the strait directly undermines the stability of global markets and international supply chains. He warned of the severe humanitarian and economic repercussions that arise from disruptions to the flow of essential goods, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid.
The permanent representative stressed the necessity of protecting maritime security and ensuring the safe, continuous flow of international trade in accordance with international law. He called for coordinated international action to de-escalate current tensions and prevent the crisis from worsening, emphasizing that such efforts are essential to preserving regional and international peace and security.
